More thinky thoughts about Show and 4.04

Now, this may come as a total shock to some of you, but me? I'm a Deangirl.

Being a Deangirl, I never really liked that the mytharc was "all about Sam". I kept waiting for the "big reveal" - yeah, it's all about Sam, but wait and see where Dean comes in, cuz it's gonna knock your socks off.
Yeah.
I know.
How naive of me, right? I mean, I even thought the necklace had some significance to the story! Pffft!
So now, season 4 is here, and yay! Sam wasn't the one bringing Dean back! It was... wait for it... an angel! *groans while eyerolling*
But ok, cuz this is Show, right? So maybe it's not gonna be cliche. Maybe it's not going to be angel!Dean Vs. demon!Sam, right?
*sigh*
In case I hadn't stressed it enough before, I miss season 1. I so SO miss season 1. And it took me forever to figure out why. I mean, season 1 had no continuity, and had lots of MotW with hardly any mytharc in it. Also, it had Phantom Traveler *shudders* which I'm pretending never happened, so it's all good.
So why do I keep coming back to season 1 being the best ever? Because! Because it had layers! Because, after seeing an episode, I just had to go watch it again and find all the small nuances and deeper meanings I couldn't find on first viewing.
Because I had a bunch of awesome people to point out even more of those little points that made show Show. And it's gone now.
I know practically every season 1 episode by heart (Phantom Traveler didn't happen, right?), but I can count on one hand the number of episodes I even rewatched from season 3. I just didn't see a point to rewatch it. It felt like Show was just a show, which... *sobs*
But I digress.
I'm here, as a Deangirl, to talk about Sam, and how Show has been... too fan-oriented lately.
I mean, seriously? Having Bobby say idjits again? Not funny. Dean and Sam named after Mary's parents, Dean telling John to buy the Impala... I'm not even going to go there or I'll go

So yeah, there are more Deangirls than there are Samgirls. We all know that. But lately? Dean's not Dean anymore. He's a "what would the fans like to see Dean do" kind of Dean. And Sam? He's... pretty much where Dean was in season 1. He's the brain and the "dark secret", the same way Dean was the brunt and the saviour of season 1 (if you only look at the outler layer).
And Sam's been that for so long, that in Metamorphosis, where Dean found out about all the secrets, especially Sam knowing about the demon blood for a whole year, even I felt Dean's betrayal - which was portrayed perfectly by the talented Jensen.
BUT
Sam's little outburst, all the things he'd been keeping inside. MAN! That was AWESOME! It had me boo-ing Dean. Me! Boo-ing Dean! Because finally! We almost have another layer here. Not enough to go back and watch everything and see little things we've missed, but hey, Sam has thinky thoughts! And is afraid of what Big Brother is going to think! And since realizing he has demon blood in him, he figured out there can never be normal, that his dream of normal can only be that - a dream - and he had no one to share it with or talk about it to, cuz he can't talk to Dean and there's no one else.
And guuuuuuuys! Sam is Dean! Sam turned into Dean! And that's just wrong!
Make it better, Show! Fix this!

Date: 2008-10-12 09:55 am (UTC)Second, I still think s4 Sam is like s1 Dean. I mean, in s1, we knew nothing about Dean, and everything about Sam. Now it's reversed. At least that's how I see it.
And yeah, he's in denile. Which is going to be tasty when it blows up in his face. Cuz it's so gonna...
