Cool. It's been a while since they've showed stuff from episodes I liked. So, Mary time, huh? Is Dean finally going to find out? Excitement level – 6.
Seriously? They're going to be sleeping in every episode from now till 4.22? And with their clothes on? What's with that?
Yay for traumatic flashbacks!
Nice.
Oh, come on! He's just so happen to fall asleep with John's journal and his phone on him? It's been ages since we've seen the journal, but he just happens to have it on him?
So, what? Flashback to the 60's? Are we gonna see wee!John?
Hee.
Ok, 70's. Still funny – and totally fan-fic-esque. (That Supernatural 70's Show!)
Man, being spoiler-free rocks!
OMG, NOOOO!!!! The Impala!!! (Thank God Dean's there to prevent catastrophe. Could you imagine SamnDean cruising along in a 70's van? The horrors!)
Dean Van Halen?
Wanna bet it's not John who's going to need looking after?
Jeremy Carver? Well, at least it's not Sera Gamble.
Congratulations, Metalicar Winchester was just born.
Hey, is it just me, or is it the same street from CSPWDT?
"I'm going to Hell. … Again…" Oh, Dean…
Whoa, Mary's kickass. And a hunter no doubt… yep. (Cliche' much?)
Mary Campbell. Good to know.
Sammy? Deana? Don’t you think it's pushing it a little? What, all their history has to be revealed in this episode?
Hey, kroki_refur! Show heard you! Stan's going to be back!
Oh, oops. I was distracted by the tiny smart!Dean moment that I didn't properly squee over the priest outfit. In my defense, I like him shirtless better…
Hey, wait. It's 73, so 10 years from now…
Stan! We missed you, man demon pal!
Happily ever after? John? John Winchester? John Eric Winchester? Really? O_o
Oh, Sammy, you're just like your mother. *pets Sam* Now I wonder what if…
Oh, Dean/John/boys/Mary… *group hug *
Awwwww… *hugs Dean *
Hey, where is Sam?
Btw, I'm really pretty sure Refur's going to hate this episode (for lack of Sam's nose)
Hee. Daddy!Sam.
Stan!
Dean, no, he's possessed!
Told ya! (10 pies for being smart about it. -9 pies for losing the gun anyway…)
Oh, Jensen. I think you took it a little over the top here.
JOHN! Well, I did not see that coming...
Ya know, that "what if" could be really interesting. Of course, since John's dead and all, it won't have SamnDean in it, so it won't be as pretty, but still.
Mary sold Sam for John? Huh.
See what happens when Dean doesn’t drive the Deanpala? He gets places late, that's what.
Ok, so overall, this episode? Let the begin…
This episode? In my opinion? Was a waste of an episode.
Rereading my reactions, it looks like I liked it. Well, I didn't. The more I think about it, the less I like it.
Why?
First of all, since when is this the Dean's 70's Show? What the beep happened to Sam in this episode? I mean, 1 minute of not even brotherly interaction, and Sam left? Really? Really? Don't get me wrong, I'm a Deangirl, but it's a brother show. Not one or the other. Both, or no dice.
And really, when Castiel says Sam's not looking for Dean – people this is where you cut to Sam! Get it? Perfect opportunity, right here!
There was not one bit of brotherly banter in this episode! Do you get that?
And what, next week it's gonna be all Sam's POV? Like in AHBL? (Please don't answer that if your answer is a spoiler).
It really is a good thing I was spoiler-free for this episode, or I'd've hated it before I've seen it. This way I hated it, but at least I kept an open mind about it.
I felt like this was something a beginner fanfic Deangirl would write, not a paid, professional writer. It was cliche', and poorly written. The acting was ok, the casting, too, but the writing was very disappointing, IMHO.
Someone said they were glad Dean finally has some answers. I'm not. I wanted Sam to tell him, or slip or something. I wanted it to be about the both of them, not Dean finding on his own. I wanted the big fight of "How could you hide this from me, you jackass?!", and I didn't get that. And I've been waiting since season 2, so, necklace, anyone?
Also, Didn't Mary say she wanted to get as far away as she could? And where did this take place? That's right. Lawrece, Kansas. Ten years later, where are they? Yep, you know it.
Another thing about the timeline - how the hell could Stan know what's going to happen in 10 years? How could he know Mary and John would have a baby just then? I mean, they were all 6 months all to the day, so timing's important to him - how could he possibly know that?
Moreso, Do they really expect us to believe that John, in his research, found out all those omens in Lawrence the year Mary died, but didn't think to look ten years earlier? Really? Do you people know John Winchester?
Also, if you ignore the whole "grandfather complex" cliche', did Dean actually see John dead? I don't think so, not the way Mary was sitting, or with his attention on the YED, or, ya know, with Castiel yanking him away when he did.
Oh, and what's with the whole "James Bond confession" thing? I mean, by all means, Stan was not stupid. He kept his plan to himself, which was smart, right? So, if he even suspected there's a chance Dean was telling the truth, that he's from the future, that he's Mary's child, but not one of the psychic kids, why on Earth didn't he kill wee!Dean when he'd had the chance? Or any time before OR after that? Why not send every supernatural bastard after the kid who knows about the only weapon that can kill him, and said he already did? Cuz not killing the threat? That's just stupid.
To sum it up - In the beginning there was squee. Then I realized Dean wasn't dreaming it but living it, and it sucked. Excitement level - 0. Squee level - 0. I'd rather pretend this episode didn't happen. I know most of you probably won't agree, but this is my opinion.

Date: 2008-10-03 04:16 pm (UTC)Honestly? Looking on it, I think this is one of the better "exposition airlines" episodes I've seen on a show. A) the math, for the most part, worked (unlike Spike's back-story on BtVS). B) it was presented in a moderately interesting format (unlike, well, the "exposition airlines" ep of Alias, where Kendall just sat Syd down and told her what happened). C) It at least vaguely makes sense (unlike everything that ever tries to explain anything on Heroes, IMO).
Yeah, I don't think it was superfantasticcrazyAmericandanceparty! great. I don't think it was terrible, either. And it might have set up some very interesting developments later on.
