Yeah, the fact I'm burying a story I liked is... not a pleasant one, to say the least, but now I'm watching Kripke's commentary for WIAWSNB and I'm pissed off. I really am.
I'm listening to him, and man, SHUT UP!
He's so psyched about having this AU episode, he really wanted to show what would have happened had Mary never died.
The original idea was that Dean was supposed to be a loser. "The ne'er do well brother." "That made so much sense to me because without hunting... What's sort of interesting about Dean is if he didn't have hunting he'd for the most part be a drifter and a loser." "Hunting in a weird way gives him structure and a purpose that he would never have in any other situation. And so I really liked the idea..." You like the idea, TETIK?
Dean's childhood died along with Mary and his Dad in the fire. His father, or what survived of his father, destroyed his childhood, took away his choices, even if he had only the best of intentions at heart.
Had it not been for the fire, I believe Dean would have been a paramedic, a firefighter, a pediatrician, or an engineer.
He's smart - smart enough to think of rock salt and build an EMF meter out of an old walkman. He's loyal to a fault, passionate, good with kids and likes a little bit of danger in his life.
You make him out to be an automaton who just wants to kill and protect Sam, and I really hate that.

, and let me tell you something, TETIK, there are more of us than there are Samgirls. Ever wondered why?
Forget the looks, and the acting, Dean has LAYERS. He's a four year old scared little kid who's just trying to listen to his father and protect his brother so he could have what little of his family and safety back, and he's willing to go the extra 10 miles to get it. And you, sir, suck.
Yes, I agree hunting has changed him. His life, the way John conditioned him has changed him. He might not have been close to Sam had it not been for the fire. BUT he would have been normal. He would have had friends, a family, a home.
He would NOT have been a loser.
Maybe he and Sam would bond over school. I do believe the reason Dean hated it so much was because he didn't really have the chance to apply himself. I mean, think about it - he had to take care of Sam, often alone, drifting from place to place with no one to really back him up. He had chores and training and taking care of his brother and sometimes father.
You tell me when he had had time for "irrelevant" things as school. And he believes in what he does. He doesn't hunt for revenge, he does it to help people, unlike Sam and John. And you, sir, suck out loud.
You should be careful there, TETIK, cuz there are manys out there, and you keep dumbing our boy out, keep pretending he's nothing more than a hunter and an automaton, you're gonna have problems getting to season 4.
On a different note, sorry if you reviewed my story and I didn't reply.
I'm so depressed about this story, I haven't even read the comments and reviews, though they are much appreciated and I will hug them each in time. For now, I'm just disappointed I got so few hits that those reviews, as squee-worthy as they may be, are just not enough to pick me up.

Date: 2007-09-14 08:16 pm (UTC)The problem is that he has really no idea of the psychological depth of his own characters and how this is important for the viewers...I mean, this is the man whose favourite scene of S1 is the plumber that loses his hand to the sink in Home -_-
Though he aknowledged it at the Paley, saying that "me alone (without Robert Singer, who he admits is the one who brings a psychological depth he wouldn't be able to create) is like Boogeyman" I'm still pretty pissed too.
I really don't see why without hunting Dean should have been a loser and a driter too. Dean isn't stupid at all, he has just a more practical mind.

I mean, seriously, the guy surfs the net for the forums and stuff, which I truly admire, and he still doesn't get it?

He says he surfs on the internet but still thinks the viewer are for the majority males: he has really no idea of the real fandom, 'cause I've out of 50 people I know are watching SPN 2 are boys and the whole rest are girls. Which usually (not everyone of them) prefer the Robert Singer's approach to the characters, meaning the effect of the things that happen are more important that the event themselves, it's the psychological journey the one we're really interested in, while Kripke's is preferred by the boys he created it for.
Still, the viewers are mostly women so I doubt he knows the fans as much as he claims to.
