I don't argue the fact that Dean is a big girl, but I've not given up on the necklace. All Sam said was Uncle Bobby gave it to him to give to dad. Whether he picked it out of a store (which, why? The thing is ugly as sin) or rather (and this is what I think) Sam wanted to give something to his dad for Christmas and couldn't afford anything so uncle Bobby gave him the necklace to give. Sam didn't need to have any knowledge of what the necklace was or if it has and supernatural significance. Bobby is so heavily in the Supernatural world, I think its more than likely the necklace has more story to it. Of course if we never get more back story than that, fine, but I'm leaving myself open.
I really liked the story of how Dean came into possession of the necklace (even if it made him a big girl) and I was never even a little bit disappointed in how it was done. I watch Supernatural for the bond between the brother. In my opinion that was a perfect brotherly scene. The boys don't have much and don't have much to give, so I think that is the reason Dean cherishes it so much. Whether he knows if there is something special about the necklace or not, whether there is something special about it or not, it was a gift from his brother, probably one of the few he ever recieved that was truly a gift. Even if this is where the story of the necklace ends, I don't think I'm even a little disappointed. I have a feeling though there is more to it than meets the eye.
That of course is just my opinion on the whole thing.
And dude, you've got be thinking about Jensen with like...pink bows in his hair and stuff! Haha.
