Sam seems eager to do anything to help his brother, but even he can't mend the rift John has created. Dean was being practical but John was only thinking of saving Dean. It'll take a lot to heal that if the septre falls into the wrong hands and can't be retrieved, even if it saves Dean.
Dean seems disinterested in everything. Is it because of the leech or because he scared about what John is doing? Whichever this is riveting reading.
